Thermoforming cardboard trays from Frimaq Vs packaging in prefabricated cardboard trays

At IFFA 2022 in Frankfurt, Frimaq presented its innovative TFF machine for thermoforming cardboard trays.

We have already written about this world's first unique machine, which thermoforms cardboard trays by itself, laminating them with a thin film, and then sealing the product container on the traysealer. The traysealer technology provides a high soldering strength and an absolutely leak-proof pack, which has been thoroughly tested.

This packaging method is beneficial not only in terms of environmental friendliness, but also in terms of economy.

We compared the efficiency of the Frimaq packaging solution with packaging in pre-made cardboard trays. To do so, we took the average market price of a pre-made cardboard tray, the cost of the cardboard and film used to form the trays at the TFF as the basis.

The price of a 150x235x30h tray that is produced on a Frimaq machine, taking into account the cost of the cardboard and the film used for lamination, is about €0,085. The average market price of the finished tray is 0,30 €. In consideration of the tolerance, the guaranteed savings on the price of the tray are up to 0,20 € per unit.

Next we calculate the approximate profitability of the equipment.

We calculate a capacity of 3 trays per stroke and a low frequency of 5 strokes per minute.

3 x 5 = 15 trays per minute.

15 x 50 = 750 trays per hour (margin of error of 10 minutes).

We take into account a 12-hour work shift and 20 working days per month.

750 x 11 = 8,250 trays per shift (taking into account the 1 hour break).

8,250 x 20 = 165,000 trays per month.

165000 x 0,15 = 24,750 € savings per month.

The saving per year will be 24.750 x 12 = 297.000 €. With these savings, the investment will pay for itself in no more than 2 years, depending on the production volume.
